Laycock de Normanville A-Type Overdrive Gasket and Seal 10 Pce Kit RR1518PP
Laycock de Normanville A-Type Overdrive Gasket and Seal Kit RR1518PP
The Laycock de Normanville A-Type overdrive was the original and most heavy-duty unit produced by Laycock Engineering, introduced in the early 1950s.
Because it was rugged and capable of handling high torque, it was primarily fitted to large-displacement sports cars, luxury saloons, and robust GT cars throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

Quick
Identification & Operation
* How
to spot it: The A-Type can be distinguished from later units (like the LH or
J-Types) because its solenoid is located on the right-hand side of the casting.
* Gear
operation: Unlike later safety-restricted units, the heavy-duty A-Type was
famous for being operational on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears on many Triumph
applications, effectively turning a 4-speed gearbox into a 7-speed
transmission.
